MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - The Mentor Police Department is striving to help the community (other than by fighting crime) this holiday season.

Their “Fill-A-Cruiser” Food Drive does exactly what the name indicates: fills police cruisers with donated food.

Mentor PD’s 6th Annual event is being called a “huge success” after community members stocked three SUVs with donations to distribute to food pantries that help families within the City of Mentor.

Officers also collected $2,286 in cash and gift cards to support Mentor’s Kops-N-Kids volunteer program that has helped provide gifts to children in need since 1983.

Mentor schools, police officers, and the Mentor Victim’s Assistance program selects the families in the most need of benefiting from the Kops-N-Kids program.

The police department is thankful for the generous donations from the community and support from Mentor’s Giant Eagle, Olive Garden and Mama Roberto’s to make this drive a success.
