Bond remains at $5 million for man charged in deadly arson in Mayfield Heights

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Rebecca Pletnewski and her 8-year-old daughter Olivia Schneider were found dead in their burnt home on Nov. 20. The man accused of setting fire to the Mayfield Heights home where they lived faced a judge on Wednesday.

Dominique Swopes has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated arson and one count of receiving stolen property.

Swopes pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, his bond remains at $5 million.

His next court appearance will be on Dec. 10.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner said Pletnewski died of a cervical compression with sharp force injuries and her daughter died from smoke inhalation.

Both of their deaths were ruled as homicides, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

Mayfield Heights Police said Swopes was a neighbor of the victims on Longwood Drive.

Police said he made several unwanted relationship advances toward Pletnewski. They were neighbors for seven months.

Swopes can be sentenced to death or serve a life sentence in prison if he is convicted of the charges.
