CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A weak disturbance is moving over the area today, facilitating the development of snow showers and flurries. A cold front will move over northern Ohio on Thursday, bringing more snow showers. High pressure will return for the upcoming weekend.
Short Term Forecast:
Good afternoon to you! While most of us have just seen flurries today, our friends in portions of the Primary Snow Belt are getting quite the December snowfall.
A *Winter Weather Advisory* will remain in place for Lake County and for the lakeshore of Ashtabula County until midnight. Travel may be hazardous in these areas. Plan accordingly.
Elsewhere, we’re just expecting a cold, mostly cloudy, and blustery night. A few flurries are possible outside of the Snow Belt.
Widespread Snow On Thursday:
More widespread snow will move in on Thursday as our next cold front moves through. The morning commute will be fine, but snow will begin to develop between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Snow will linger through the afternoon and into the early-evening hours.
We are not expecting major accumulations (Generally, a trace to 3”), but this will definitely be impactful for those who plan on driving during the second half of the day.
Visibility may be reduced, and any surface that is untreated may become snow-coated.
Thursday will also be very cold and windy. Highs will only top out in the mid 30s. Winds may gust to 30 mph, making it feel like it’s in the 20s all day.
In the wake of this system’s snow (we call it “synoptic snow”), expect some light lake effect snow showers to fall overnight Thursday into Friday. Favored areas for lake effect snow will be in the Primary Snow Belt.
Any lingering snow showers should come to an end by Friday afternoon.
Time To Wash Your Car:
I don’t know about you, but there’s really no car wash that is convenient to where I live or work. So, I spend most of the Winter with the dirtiest car in the parking lot. Anyone else?
Let’s all commit to finding time to head to the car wash soon. (Or not. There are more important things in life, after all. 😊)
We’re not forecasting ANY rain or snow from Friday night through NEXT Wednesday. Woohoo!
It won’t be very warm though.
Friday’s high: 29° (Ugh.)
Saturday’s high: 31°
Sunday’s high: 36°
Monday’s high: 37°
Tuesday’s high: 36°
Wednesday’s high: 42° (Not too shabby, I suppose.)
