CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - It’s been a little over a year since Salvation Army Worker, Jared Plesec was killed on Cleveland’s East side.
Since his death, the many people who knew Plesec have been deepy affected by his void.
“Jared Plesec Loved the community of Collinwood. He loved the campus of the salvation army,” said Friends of the Slain Salvation Army worker.
And this Saturday would have been his 22nd birthday.
“We recognize that he’s not here right now but we celebrate the fact that he lived a great life,” said Major Evan Hickman
That life - suddenly cut short a little over a year ago when Plesec was shot and killed here at the Euclid Beach Villa apartment complex by William Jones.
“It’s been a year of reflection. A year of me never wanting to take a day for granted,” added Major Hickman.
Hickman is just one of the many people who was touched by the 21-year-old Salvation Army worker who especially loved to mentor teens.
Friends and family others gathered here at the Collinwood Salvation Army Temple for a variety of activities that Plesec would have loved to do.
“The significance of the day is just to dedicate this Bench and Boy it just turned out beautiful,” said Major Hickman.
That bench will be placed right next to this tree named celebration which was planted in honor of Plesec himself.
“It’s just to keep the legacy of Jared Plesec alive,” said another friend of Plesec.
“We have the hope that we’ll see Jared in Heaven and we know that he’s cheering us on from above right now,” concluded Major Hickman.
William Jones is currently serving a life sentence for Plesec’s murder, as well as several other crimes he committed the very same day.
