CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Myles Garrett just made his first Pro Bowl, so he can do, and wear, whatever he wants. That includes going shirtless for his media session on Wednesday, which drew a good-natured "put a shirt on!" from a teammate, and a chuckle from Garrett.
These are fun times in Berea, because it’s a new day...a new era...led by young, dynamic players. Eight of whom earned Pro Bowl honors on Tuesday, seven of whom are under the age of 30. And the average age of our top playmakers....Mayfield, Landry, Ward, Chubb, and of course Garrett? 23.
“It is nice to see that a couple of the young guys got some recognition last night in the Pro Bowl, which is kind of cool”, interim head coach Gregg Williams said. “The guys were congratulating that. As the team gets better, there are more guys on that roster that also can get some credit.”
Well, it’s getting better...and better and BETTER...to the point where guys trust each other. They have a confidence, and believe that even when things go wrong, they will now bounce back.
“I had a bad play on Saturday, gave up a sack, and after the game I was like 'you know what, I’m gonna get better from that play, but we won this game”, guard Joel Bitonio said. “That didn’t hurt us from winning this game.”
But the most encouraging thing off all is the maturity and leadership of their 23-year old quarterback. The playoffs may be out of reach this season, but Mayfield’s keeping the pedal down, and his expects every one of his teammates to do the same.
“If the guys on this team don’t want to do that, then you can get out”, Mayfield said. “That is quite frankly how I feel. We have a lot of guys that are playing on their contract year. That also does not need to be a distraction. You need to go out and do your job.”
