CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A group of Northeast Ohio veterans want to help repair damage done by vandals at the Veterans Memorial Park in Mentor.

The suspects tried to throw a picnic table into a fireplace at the outdoor pavilion area around 1:30 a.m. on Christmas morning. The table was partially burned.

Now, the Lake County chapter of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club wants to help repair the damage or replace the picnic table.

The vandals were actually caught on a surveillance camera positioned inside the pavilion trying to throw the table into the fire. Police are hoping those pictures will help track down the suspects.

In the meantime, these local vets are scratching their heads about who would do such a thing.

“It’s kind of disturbing that someone wants to come here and ruin something that was built in honor of the men and women who have given so much to their country already,” says Josh Honaker, President of the Lake County Chapter of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club.
