Tornado with winds near 100 mph tears through parts of eastern Ohio

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Surveyors from the National Weather Service dispatched to Cortland, Ohio to investigate damage caused by a January tornado.

The tornado touched down and traveled for 4 and a half miles near Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday as severe thunderstorms moved through Northeast Ohio.

Winds measured at an estimated 100 miles per hour were recorded.

Several trees were damaged and wires were brought down in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s tornado was the seventh tornado ever recorded in Ohio during the month of January.
