PARMA, OH (WOIO) - Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a house fire that broke out in the 7100 block of Velma Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
They arrived at the scene to find a fully-involved structure fire after the blaze spread quickly to the second floor.
The homeowner, an elderly female, was able to escape the residence and was taken via ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation injuries. A spokesman with Parma Fire Department says the homeowner is still in the hospital for observation Friday.
Snow and sub-freezing temperatures created complications for responding units and slowed progress. We’re told the fire was largely under control by 9 p.m. No one would go on the record to say if “hoarding” was an issue.
The cause remains under investigation but they believe it was accidental.
