CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland police officers are searching for Lawrence Berry, who is accused of causing a crash that killed 38-year-old Janetta Foster, a mother of two children.
Berry was driving with Foster and her children, and was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic before he went out of control and hit a utility pole.
Foster was killed, her 16-year old daughter Geneva Payne suffered a compound ankle fracture, and her 12-year-old son broke his femur and fractured a disc in his back.
Family members have set up a GoFundMe account for the children.
“She’s the type of person, she could get through anything. She didn’t need nobody. She could do it herself and I knew she could, said Geneva.
Marcel Frost is Geneva’s dad, and while he was not in a relationship with Foster, he said they remained friends and were in a co-parenting relationship.
He’s angry that Berry is not in custody despite being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.
“I am very aggravated, very frustrated about that. I don’t have any understanding,” he said.
Cleveland Police said they had to conduct their investigation before arresting Berry and there is a warrant out for his arrest.
