RICHMOND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Officers from the Richmond Heights Police Department stepped up in a patriotic way for one elderly resident.

Officer Dave Jake visited a resident on Douglas Boulevard on Thursday because of a complaint involving a tattered American flag.

The resident, who is an elderly woman, asked Jake to remove the flag and properly dispose of it. He did that and then some.

Jake’s supervisor, Sergeant Denise DeBiase, gave her own money to Jake for the purpose of purchasing a new flag for the resident.

Officer Jake returned with the new flag and raised it up the pole for the resident.

“These actions truly define the culture, mindset and professional class of the Richmond Heights Police Department which continually goes above and beyond for the residents of Richmond Heights,” Richmond Heights Chief of Police Tom Wetzel wrote on Facebook. “It’s one of the reasons I feel so privileged to be a part of this police department.”
