PEPPER PIKE, OH (WOIO) - Pepper Pike Police posted dash cam video of a close call for one of their officers on Facebook.

Pepper Pike policeman nearly struck by motorist during traffic stop

The video shows a car narrowly missing Patrolman Eric Kuznik as he talked to a driver he had pulled over last week.

"I just made a minor traffic stop for a minor equipment violation, and as I was talking with that driver, I saw the traffic to the left of me stop kind of suddenly, and I looked to my right. I felt the car before I saw it,” said Kuznik.

The car did not have a visible license plate and got away.

Kuznik’s supervisor thought it would be a good idea to share the video after they realized how close the car came to hitting the patrolman.

“We thought it would be a good reminder - a little refresher on how to properly operate around a stopped emergency vehicle,” said Kuznik, “Obviously, any time you are crossing the double yellow to pass whether it be a slow moving vehicle or an emergency vehicle, you need to do so with care and caution.”

Kuznik has this message for the driver of the car that nearly hit him:

“Drive carefully. At the end of the day we all just want to go home to our families. At the end of the day, them passing like that saved them what three, four seconds on their drive time? It’s just not worth it,” said Kuznik.
