Grief-stricken family relieved Cleveland hit-and-run suspect is behind bars

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Davonte Long turned himself in to Cleveland Police on Tuesday; he had been on the run for 11 days.

He is accused of the hit-and-run that claimed the life of 68-year-old Camilo Gabriel.

Gabriel and his wife were walking to MetroHealth Systems at the time of the incident.

Investigators believe Long hit Gabriel on West 25th Street after Gabriel pushed his wife, Vilma, out of the way.

“We pray for him too in my heart. I don’t have hard feeling for nobody,” said Vilma.

“We actually feel for his parents, because his parents have to endure this. He has a twin brother, he has family. Yes, he made a mistake. Yes, it was an accident," said Camilo Gabriel Jr..

Long does have a record with police but nothing like this.

He is set to be arraigned on Wednesday for aggravated vehicular homicide.

The family wishes he would have stopped that day. It wouldn’t have changed the result, but it could have taken some of the stress away.

“I don’t wish no harm to this man I don’t know what would be fair what’s unfair,” said Camilo Jr. “Three years ten years life it’s not going to bring my father back,” said Gabriel Jr.
