Cleveland family thankful 6-year-old boy was not home during blaze that killed 3 family members

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A six-year-old boy lost his mom and two other family members in an early morning house fire on the City’s East Side early Sunday.

Surviving family members have started a GoFundMe for the child who lost everything and said it was “by the grace of God he was not home at the time of the fire".

The child’s mom, Charett Allen, 31, Mary Allen, 85, and Kenneth Allen, 61, all died when their home on East 99th caught fire around 1 a.m. on April 14.

Family members said Charett died trying to save her 85-year-old grandmother.

Family members added Kenneth was the father of two boys and known as ‘UNC’ in the neighborhood.

A Cleveland firefighter and an EMS worker were injured fighting the blaze.

Both first responders were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

Investigators said there were no working smoke detectors inside the house and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
