AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Former President Barack Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, are applauding the efforts of students and faculty at the I Promise School in Akron.
Ninety percent of the third and fourth grade students from the inaugural year posted extraordinary results in the public school district’s recent round of testing, according to the New York Times.
“So incredibly proud of these students,” the former first lady tweeted.
The former president congratulated James, who said the school’s opening was “one of the greatest” moments of his life, as well as the students for the accomplishments.
The school opened in the summer of 2018 and initially hosted approximately 240 third- and fourth-graders. By 2022, the school is expected to expand to students in first through eighth grades.
