According to Massillon police, officers first responded to Rolling Acres Park on 27th Street NW shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday for reports of an adult male who assaulted his mother before fleeing from the scene.

While police were investigating, the man returned to the home at around 11 p.m. and assaulted his mother again, according to the complaint from Massillon law enforcement.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Garett Davis, fled a second time. The home doors were locked following the second incident.

Davis again returned to the home and tried to enter through a bedroom window on the third occasion. While attempting to enter through the window, Davis was shot once in the chest.

At this time, investigators have not revealed who is suspected of fatally shooting Davis.

Police arrived to the residence again after the shooting was reported. Davis was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.

No arrests have been made in connection to the incident, according to the Massillon Police Department. The case is being forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for final review.
