Wooster Police: Father Fatally Stabbed at Son's Birthday Party

Wooster, OH - Police are reporting that a 42-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday, January 19th.

The Wooster Police Department responded to 140 West Henry Street on a stabbing call. When police arrived they observed one person dead and took the other person to the Wayne County Jail.

Dead is Larry E. Petty, age 42 from what appears to be a stab wound to the chest area. Petty, of 1737 Hightower, Columbus, OH was at the residence for his son's birthday party and got into an altercation with a resident of the W. Henry Street address, Stephen M. Hobden, age 26.

During the fight, Hobden allegedly stabbed Petty in the chest. Hobden was also injured during the fight and after being treated at Wooster Community Hospital was arrested for murder.

Formal charges will be filed Tuesday morning.

It is unclear at this time what the altercation was about and the investigation is continuing.
