Akron recruit quits before season

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - University of Akron recruit Mark Williams has quit school and returned home to Sebring, Fla., before playing his first game with the Zips, coach Dan Hipsher said Monday.

Hipsher said the 6-foot-3 guard withdrew from Akron during the weekend to deal with "some family and personal issues." Hipsher didn't specify the problems.

Williams averaged 19.6 points as a senior at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
