BEACHWOOD, OH (WOIO) - A local high school evacuated and shut down after a Wednesday morning fire.

Beachwood High School students were evacuated just before 11AM because of a fire in the boys locker room off the North Gym.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze but the school will be closed to allow for further evaluation of the fire source.

Students were released from the school premise and bus transportation provided. Parents were allowed to pick up their children from the Richmond Road entrance.

Late Wednesday afternoon, students and staff were allowed back into the building to pick up any personal belongings.

The high school expects to resume a regular schedule Thursday morning.  Parents will be notified via email if this changes.

An industrial cleaning crew will be in the building eradicating the smell of smoke and cleaning the boys' locker room.

The fire was not related to the boiler room or faulty electrical equipment. The cause is still under investigation.

This evening's Al Jenkins program will remain on schedule at 6:30 PM in the BHS auditorium. The BHS pool and the track will be closed for the evening.
