AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An Akron man trying to pass himself off as a cop is in hot water with the real boys in blue.
Phillip J. Morris is accused of identifying himself as a police officer to two females and then running them over with his vehicle.
It happened around 2:30AM Friday morning when two women walking on S. Main Street near E. State Street were confronted by Morris in his gray 1997 GMC pickup truck.
Morris identified himself as a police officer, then showed a badge he had displayed around his neck.
The females believed that Morris was not a police officer and continued walking across the street. Morris then hit the females with his truck as they crossed the street.
The 35-year-old punk sped away, running the red light at S. High Street where he was observed by a patrol supervisor.
The supervisor stopped Morris' vehicle and then heard a female screaming from underneath the vehicle. Several officers arrived and helped extract the female from underneath Morris' truck.
The victim - 21-year-old Cheryl Hosey - was rushed to Akron General Medical Center for treatment. She's in serious condition and has been moved to the burn unit at Akron Children's Hospital.
The other female struck - 25-year-old Drezden Johnson - was treated at Akron City Hospital where her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Both Hosey and Johnson are active Air Force members. They are home on leave.
Morris, meanwhile, was charged with two counts of Felonious Assault, Impersonating a Peace Officer, OVI and Suspended Drivers License.
