What Are Hemorrhoids?

Internal hemorrhoids are actually derived from normal anatomical structures called anal cushions. They are located just inside the anal canal, and help to prevent the leakage of stool whenever abdominal pressure is increased. If the cushions become stretched out or irritated, they are called hemorrhoids. Factors that often lead to hemorrhoid problems include chronic diarrhea or constipation, strenuous activity, pregnancy, and family history.
