UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - A house fire Sunday morning killed a woman and left her husband hospitalized.

Neighbors say it was the worst thing they had ever seen.

"I woke up and looked out and the whole down stairs was burning orange, it was horrible" said neighbor Kristen McHugh. "I was shaking, I tried to grab the phone, I called University Heights Police... it was just the worst thing I had ever seen."

The fire broke out inside of a home at 2500 Saybrook around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters were able to rescue a male in his 50's and transported him to a local hospital. The male's wife, 53-year-old Anne Smith, was pronounced dead on scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
