ODOT Scandal: Three More Take the Fall In Sweeping Corruption Investigation

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced that three defendants who were Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) vendors have been charged by way of information on corruption charges for using a wide-variety of scams to illegally steer ODOT contracts and business to friends and associates from 2000 to 2007.

The center of this criminal activity was ODOT's District 12 headquarters located in Garfield Heights. The Ohio Inspector General's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted the investigation. Charges against 25 additional individuals involved in the corruption are forthcoming.

Mark O'Donnell, 60, of Elyria, was charged with one count of bribery (F5). Christian Hilty, 51, of Chagrin Falls, was charged with one count of theft (F5). Richard Goldizen, Jr., 54, of Perry, was charged with one count of attempted tampering with records (F4). The fourth individual scheduled to be charged today was rescheduled for Friday, August 7, 2009. This individual will appear before a judge in the arraignment room on the 12th floor, of the Justice Center, between 9:00 am and 9:30 am.

On Friday, July 31, 2009, two Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) employees and one ODOT vendor were charged by way of information on corruption charges. ODOT Storekeeper Joseph Jedrzejek, 37, of Garfield Heights, was charged with one count of theft (F4). ODOT Auto Mechanic William Werman, 57, of Garfield Heights, was charged with one count of having an unlawful interest in a public contract (F4). Jeffrey Bauer, 42, of Willoughby Hills, was charged with one count of attempted tampering with records (F4) and one count of bribery (F5).

These six defendants - Joseph Jedrzejek, William Werman, Jeffrey Bauer, Mark O'Donnell, Christian Hilty, and Richard Goldizen - have pre-trials scheduled at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

Two more individuals are scheduled to be charged on August 11th and August 12th, 2009. These individuals will appear before a judge in the arraignment room on the 12th floor, of the Justice Center, between 9:00 am and 9:30 am.
