CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Former Glenville High School football player, Ryan Driggins has been found guilty in the death of 69 year old Glenn Rankin.

Ryan Driggins pistol whipped Rankin, who had already been shot and was laying in a pool of his own blood.

The saddest part of the case is that Rankin died due to a dumb mistake by Driggins.  A year earlier Driggins robbed a home of $90,000 cash. He came back looking for more and mistakenly went into the Rankin home three doors away.

During the trial, prosecutors gave the jury vivid details of Driggins' confession.  Prosecutors painted a picture of how Driggins ran out of the house and told his posse,  "I had to pop the dude."

Driggins left Glenn Rankin in a pool of his own blood complaining about numbness. He left him to die.

Eight hours later Rankins wife of 45 years returned home to find him lying up against the bookcase.

Driggins had changed his mind on a plea deal, forcing the state to try him for aggravated murder, a charge that could land him in prison for life.

Sentencing is set for Monday, August 24th.
