Double dipping is the term used to describe the practice of veteran elected officials retiring briefly between elected terms.
It allows them to collect retirement benefits that can amount to over sixty per cent of their annual salary while still receiving their full salary. It's a deal so sweet that hardly any politician can pass it up.
At least a dozen elected officials in greater Cleveland are double dipping, the latest to join in this practice is Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis. These days most workers in the private sector don't even get pensions anymore but our elected officials have always figured out how to get a better deal.
In this case, it's a double deal.
