In Court: Drunk Driver Who Crashed Into Cleveland's Top Cop

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The woman who crashed into a Cleveland Police cruiser and injured two officers will be in court Tuesday morning answering to drunk driving charges.

Maria Dawson crashed into Cleveland Police Officer, Jim Simone's patrol car on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge during a traffic stop.

Dawson blew 4-times the legal limit during a sobriety test.

Injured officer Jim Simone tells 19 Action News "I just opened the door, all of the sudden there was a car. I've spent my whole life enforcing drunk driving laws and this is why."

Both officers are now home recovering.
