NORTH OLMSTED, OH (WOIO) - A 50-year-old man is in custody after ramming into a police cruiser three times before leading officers on a wild chase.
The ramming started around 10:40 p.m. Monday evening whe police were called to the Wellington Place Skilled Nursing Facility on Clague Road for a suspicious vehicle.
North Olmsted police located the suspicious pick-up truck in the rear parking lot of the facility and witnessed a male, Wayne Phillips, jump into the truck, lock the doors and reach for something under the front seat.
A police officer called for back-up and then at gun-point ordered Phillips out of the truck.
The back-up officer arrived on scene and was immediately rammed three times by Phillip's truck. Phillips then drove towards the first officer on scene who was behind a cement pillar and then took off onto Brook Park Road.
Phillips crashed his truck into a tree on West 157th Street and then took off on foot.
Police caught him quickly.
Both Phillips and the police officer rammed by the pick-up truck were treated and released from a local hospital.
Phillips has multiple charges pending against him including felonious assault on a police officer.
