AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Laid off police officers will soon be back on the job. Last week, Akron mayor, Don Plusquellic announced more than 200 layoffs.
This, after Mayor Plusquellic learned the city had been given federal stimulus money. The money will be used to put some of the officers back in uniform.
In fact, thanks to the newly found funds, 37 police jobs will be saved through end of 2009.
Akron issued 201 layoff notices - with more than half going to police officers and firefighters - last week to address a projected deficit of as much as $8 million by the end of the year.
