CLEVELAND, OH - Dr. Eugene Sanders, CEO of Cleveland Schools, invites the Cleveland community out to tip their hats in celebration of the 4th annual "Hats Off to CMSD Kids Day" on Friday, October 2, 2009.

CMSD is requesting that volunteers arrive at their school of choice 15-30 minutes prior to the start of the school day, and spend as little as 15 minutes at the building. As students arrive, volunteers are encouraged to "tip their hats" and greet students with words of encouragement and motivation. "We are merely asking the city's adults to take a few minutes out of their morning and visit a school of their choice," said Dr. Sanders. "The message we want to communicate to our students is that we love them and support them."

Allan Krulak, Vice President of Forest City Enterprises Inc., corporate sponsor of Hats Off this year, will accompany Dr. Sanders on his school visits.

Dr. Sanders will celebrate Hats Off at the following locations:

Franklin D. Roosevelt
800 Linn Drive
Arrival time: 7:30 a.m.
3800 West 140th Street
Arrival time: 8:45 a.m.

In an effort to further enrich this event and make it interactive, the Greater Cleveland Educational Development Center at Cleveland State University, coordinator of the Cleveland School Book Fund (CSBF), will visit several primary classrooms and read to students. The CSBF is an initiative that has put 150 book titles in each of the 820 primary classrooms in CMSD.

"This will mean a lot to our students," said Dr. Sanders. "And it only takes a few minutes during the day to send a powerful message to students that will last long after the moment." .
