Ex-trooper charged with having sex with 14-year-old

RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) - A Portage County grand jury has indicted a recently resigned State Highway Patrol sergeant on charges of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said Todd Mason of Ravenna, a 25-year patrol veteran, was charged with a felony count of gross sexual imposition and a misdemeanor count of unlawful restraint.
Mason, who was assigned to the Warren post, appeared Monday in Portage County Common Pleas Court on the charges. He was released on $20,000 bond.
Vigluicci said the charges stem from a sexual encounter in
Ravenna with a girl last November.
Mason was represented in court by attorney William Simon, who had no comment. Mason doesn't have a home listing in Ravenna and couldn't be reached for comment.
Mason resigned Thursday after being placed on paid
administrative leave Jan. 23, when the patrol learned he was being investigated, said post commander Lt. George Williams.
