At least 18 rescued from Lake Erie ice floes

MARBLEHEAD , Ohio (AP) - The Coast Guard rescued about 17 ice fishermen caught on ice that broke off from the Lake Erie shore Monday as a snow squall moved through the area.

A Marblehead Coast Guard helicopter rescued about 17 people stranded on the ice floe that drifted about 1½ miles from shore as winds swept the area near Catawba Island. All were in good condition, the Coast Guard said.

A Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit also rescued an ice fisherman who had become separated from a friend as a squall moved through the Marblehead area between Toledo and Cleveland.
