CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The man accused of fatally shooting a Cleveland Heights police officer will avoid death row.
Timothy Halton was facing the death penalty for the murder of Officer Jason West in 2007.
But at Friday's hearing, Halton cut a deal to save his life.
Halton pleaded guilty to the deadly shooting and in return prosecutors dropped their request for the death penalty.
Now he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
