ESPN is reporting that team owner Randy Lerner has zeroed in on Mike Holmgren as his first choice to be the Browns top football authority. Holmgren is out of football now, he last worked as the coach of the Seattle Seahawks and was also their General Manager for a stint.
Lerner wants Holmgren to take a role similar to what Bill Parcells has with the Miami Dolphins, an over seer of all football operations. Holmgren would have the power to hire a GM, restructure things in the front office and would be charged with getting the Browns off the mat. It is wondered if Holmgren would rather return to football in a coaching role though.
Other names on the wish list include former New York Giants General Manager Ernie Accorsi, former Green Bay GM Ron Wolf and Rich McKay, the current president of the Atlanta Falcons. Accorsi has been a friend of the Lerner family for years and has stated that he does not have interest in taking on a full time job.
