Accident: Massillon Tiger Swing Band Buses Crash on I-77 After Playoff Game

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Two school buses collided on I-77 after a high school playoff football game concluded Saturday night causing multiple injuries to students and adults onboard.

Massillon City School buses were transporting the Massillon Tiger Swing Band when the two band buses crashed into each other about a mile south of 224 on I-77 southbound.

The injuries involved were minor and non-life threatening, some students were checked out at local hospitals once they got back to the school Saturday evening.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, there were no citations issued to date.

The Summit County Sheriff's Department tells 19 Action News that one of the two band buses rear-ended the other, and the one in the back had substantial damage.

Authorities are investigating if someone possibly cut the front bus off causing them to slam on their brakes.

They Massillon High School Swing Band was being escorted by police at the time of the accident because they were coming from the Massillon football team's playoff game at the University of Akron against Glenville.

The Massillon Tigers lost to Glenville 31-17.
