CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The circus that is the Copenhagen Climate Summit began this week. The event is attracting hundreds of well-meaning scientists, various and sundry Hollywood notables, more than a few whackos and a legion of hypocritical politicians eager to exploit the fear over climate change.
World leaders have already agreed that this conference won't produce any sort of binding agreement - just a preliminary statement of intent. But the show is what matters especially to the politicians and the show must go on despite the fact that the event itself is an environmental abuse.
People in Copenhagen say world leaders and their entourages will employ some twelve hundred limousines during the summit - none of them hybrids - and the airport is expecting upwards of one hundred forty extra carbon-spewing private jets. The London Telegraph says that the town's top hotels are all fully booked at about $800 a night and are readying their climate convention menus of scallops, Foie Gras and sculpted caviar wedges. I don't know about you, but the more I watch and listen to these self-proclaimed saviors of the planet - I am worried less about the future than the present.
