AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Two men were arrested after gunfire erupted outside the Vertigo Nightclub on South Main Street overnight.

Akron police say an argument inside the club spilled outside, leading to the violence.

Off-duty officers working outside the nightclub say after hearing gunshots, they tried to stop a Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by 20 year old Darrion W. Smith.

The Euclid man didn't stop, even knocking an officer to the ground as he backed up his car and drove off.

The officer was not seriously injured and Smith was eventually stopped on Route 8 by Stow Police.

He was charged with Failure to Comply and Felonious Assault on a Police Officer and being held in the Summit County Jail.

Officers attempted to stop a second car that was also believed to be involved. Police fired one shot at that car when it attempted to run him over but the driver got away.

Meantime, a third vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was stopped.

A loaded .38 revolver was found in that car.

Police arrested 19 year old Troy L. Carter of Akron.

He was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Weapons Under Disability and booked into the Summit County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation.
