Fatal Crash: Passenger Killed After Car Careens Into Eastside House

UPDATE: CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A 37-year-old Columbus man is dead after the car he was riding in lost control and careened into an eastside house.

The accident happened around midnight at East 135th and Marston.

Police say Ronald Banks was speeding and failed to stop at the three-way intersection. He then drove through a guardrail, uprooted a tree and struck the house. The car partially entered the home's basement.

Earl Purnell - the front seat passenger - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Driver Ronald Banks was treated and released from Metro. He is now locked up at the Justice Center under investigation for aggravated vehicular homicide.

A passenger in the backseat - a 34-year-old man - fled the scene on foot.

Another passenger in the back seat - a 30-year-old man - was treated and released for his injuries.

Nobody in the house sustained any injuries.
