AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An Akron man purchased his wife's Christmas present from The Salvation Army but the gift isn't any hand-me-down.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased a gold coin that was dropped in a Summit County area red kettle last week.

The 24-carat gold coin is worth about $1,100 but he paid $1,500 for it.

The goal for the Red Kettle campaign is set at $400,000.00 and The Salvation Army hopes to reach this goal by Christmas Eve.
