EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Board of Trustees of the East Cleveland Public Library voted Tuesday night at its regularly scheduled meeting to temporarily close the East Cleveland Public Library system.

The library is scheduled to close at the end of business today and anticipates re-opening on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Board President, Chester Tucker stated, "This step is being taken as part of the Board's efforts to honor our fiduciary responsibility to the community and to balance the budget. The Library has previously stopped using all part-time staff, stopped ordering new materials, and cut back hours at the branches, Unfortunately, these efforts were not enough to overcome the shortfall brought on by state and local budget cuts this year."

Library Director, Greg L. Reese stated, "We deeply regret the impact that this furlough will have on our employees. We also recognize the hardship this temporary loss of library services will place on our community."
