LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) - A baby boy abandoned just days before Christmas at a Lakewood Hospital Professional Building may now have a name.

According to police, a tentative identification of the child has been made.

The infants mother has been identified too and the Lakewood Police Department has been in contact with her.

Police are still looking into the surrounding circumstances of the abandonment.

The baby boy who was found lying unattended on a bench in the hospital lobby.

Several Hospice of the Western Reserve office employees were tending to the baby when officers arrived. According to the employees, no one was seen near the infant.

He was dressed in a blue knit winter coat, and red flannel pajamas with a white snowman and snowflake pattern. A black/red backpack, filled with infant clothes, was found with the child. Several bottles and a box of formula were also with the child.

A check of both pediatric offices in the building was done and neither office recognized the infant. He was transported to Lakewood Hospital by Lakewood EMS.

The child appears to be in good health and is currently in the custody and care of the Cuyahoga County Children's and Family Services.

Because the child, who is between four and six months old, is too old to fit under Ohio's Safe Haven Law, child neglect charges could be filed.
