AKRON, OH (WOIO) - New developments in a Christmas Eve murder.

Detectives arrested 47-year-old William L. Creel for the death of 19-year-old Joshua M. Simmons.

Officers responded around midnight on Christmas Eve to the 1400 block of Newton Street where they found Simmons on the dining room floor of a vacant house with a gunshot wound to his head. Simmons was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

During the five-day investigation, detectives developed information that Creel fired a shot through an opened dining room window at Simmons.

Creel was picked up without incident at his place of employment on Grant Street around 3PM Wednesday afternoon. Creel was charged with Aggravated Murder.

Creel is the uncle of Simmons' wife, Christina M. Simmons.

This is an on-going investigation. Anyone with information can contact the Akron Police Department, Detective Bureau at (330) 375-2490.
