Akron Man Accused of Pocketing Nearly $40K In Tuition Scam

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An Akron man slapped with charges after running a tuition scam.

James McCoy II is accused of recruiting employees from City Hospital to participate in a tuition re-imbursement scam.

The 29-year-old allegedly issued counterfeit University of Akron transcripts to 21 participants in the scam and received a portion of the re-imbursements that totaled $37,650.32.

The participants were not legitimate student of the University of Akron.

McCoy II is charged with theft, forgery and uttering.
