Elyria: Cause of Fatal Fire Ruled "Undetermined"

ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - Investigators have ruled the cause of Wednesday's fatal fire "undetermined" but say the fire started in the rear of the home in or near the bedroom.

58-year-old Frank Sabol died after being trapped in his burning Tattersall Court home.

Fire happened around 11:30 in the morning.

Firefighters managed to pull Sabol from the burning home, but he later died of smoke inhalation.

Investigators could not eliminate a secondary heating source (space heater) or the careless use/disposal of smoking materials as possible causes for the fire.

It is unknown whether or not the home was equipped with smoke detectors. Investigators said first responders and witnesses did not hear any detectors alerting.
