Small Cargo Jet Crashes Outside Chicago

(CNN) -- A small cargo jet crashed into a river Tuesday afternoon while attempting to land at an airport in suburban Chicago, Illinois, the Federal Aviation Administration and airport officials said.

The Learjet was on its final approach into Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Illinois, when it went down, the FAA reported. The plane crashed about a mile south of the runway, Chicago Executive Airport worker Kathy Pradd told CNN.

The flight was operated by Royal Air Cargo. No information about any injuries to the crew was immediately available.
