Kite flier cited for littering

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A Tallmadge man who told a park ranger he was trying to get a kite stuck in a tree has been cited for littering.

Donald Hammond, 43, was using a fishing pole to fly the kite Saturday in Goodyear Heights Metro Park in Akron when it got stuck.

A park ranger advised Hammond to fly his kite in open areas in the future.

According to court documents, Hammond said he had been working to get the blue kite stuck in the tree so he could prove to his children that he got it to fly.

He told the ranger he had taken his children out earlier and there was not enough wind for the kite to get off the ground.

Hammond was issued a citation for littering and dumping and is to appear in Akron Municipal Court on Friday.
