NEW DETAILS: SOUTH EUCLID, OH (WOIO) - An argument over a family pet leads to a tense standoff in South Euclid early Thursday morning.
Only 19 Action News cameras rolling on the scene of a standoff at Greenvale and Waverly.
Trouble between the two brothers started when they could not agree on who would take the family pet. One brother opened fire, while the other escaped and called police. The gunman remained holed up inside the house.
As the standoff neared the four-hour mark, police resorted to shooting tear gas into the home to encourage the suspect to surrender.
"Essentially, you want it resolved as quickly as possible," said Sgt. Mike O'Connor. "If we can talk the person out, that's what we want, ideally, and that's what they were attempting to do when he refused to come out, the gas was introduced into the home in order to motivate him to get out of the house."
Just before 6AM, the gunman inside the home surrendered peacefully and was promptly taken into police custody.
Police and SWAT teams from South Euclid, Beachwood and surrounding areas all on scene to help bring the potentially dangerous situation under control.
Luckily, no one was injured. No word on charges at this time.
