CONNEAUT, OH (WOIO) - The Ashtabula County Coroner's office is investigating the death of two boaters.

Two men were found inside a small, one-man boat on the beach at Township Park around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The victims have been identified as 33-year-old Steven Bowling, of Kingsville, and 20-year-old Barry Catron of Ashtabula.

The boat was discovered by a walker on the beach.

Investigators believe that the boat either started in Lake Erie on Saturday, or was blown into the lake from the Ashtabula River during Saturday's windstorm.

It appears both men were trying to paddle their way back to safety.

The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy is done in Cuyahoga County, the boaters may have died of drowning or hypothermia.
