ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) - Authorities are busy this week trying to figure out who is responsible for vandalizing 41 gravestones in the Alliance City Cemetery.
"I don't know what people are thinking to vandalize a cemetery, that's pretty low," said Pat Nelson.
The crime reportedly took place sometime over the Easter weekend, and this isn't the first time the resting place has been targeted by thugs.
Many of the headstones destroyed were in a section where war veterans were buried. Officials tell 19 Action News have had enough and want whomever responsible to be caught.
"Here we go again," said Mitch Kirby of the Alliance Cemetery. "It happens three or four times a year. I couldn't imagine how a family member would feel to see their loved ones grave disrespected in this manner."
Kirby sent out this warning to the vandals, "It's very disrespectful and if we catch you, you will be prosecuted."
Cemetery officials say they will cover the cost - estimated to be several thousand dollars - to make the necessary repairs.
They are also looking into installing surveillance cameras.
