(WOIO) - A major setback for American families wishing to adopt Russian children.
Moscow has suspended all adoptions from the U.S. until procedures can be worked out with Washington.
This, after a Tennessee woman put her adopted 7-year-old son on a plane back to Russia alone. She claims the child was a terror and mentally unstable.
The case has sparked international outrage.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko addressed the issue Thursday.
"Further adoptions of Russian children by the American citizens, which at present has been suspended, will only be possible in case such an agreement is reached," said Nesterenko.
