CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning America again, slow down before you "eat yourself to death."
People are bigger and overweight in comparison to what they were 20 to 30 years ago.
With the weight comes health problems.
Many have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
In fact, 45% of Americans, almost half the entire adult population, has high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes and many have combinations of these conditions.
"Each one of these conditions is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease which is one of the leading causes of death in the US ," said Dr. Rosemarie Hirsch of the Nation Center for Health Statistics.
Signs point to America's growing waistline as the cause. Eating to much and exercising too little, leaving 1/3 of Americans obese according to the latest statistics.
"You eat fast food and you're always on the run you don't make good food choices and you could end up in that situation."
The study also reveals one-in-seven adults did not even know they were sick with these conditions-- conditions that could shorten their lives if left untreated.
But there is good news. Experts stressing all these conditions are treatable. Lifestyle changes and medications are key.
