CANTON, Ohio (AP) - A judge sentenced a man to 18 years to life in prison in the fatal shooting of his cocaine supplier.
Stark County Common Pleas Judge Charles E. Brown Jr. sentenced Craig Dunivant, 34, on Thursday on his murder conviction in the death of Ruben Floyd on Jan. 15.
Dunivant testified he was scared of Floyd, a former star athlete at Canton's McKinley High School who became a gunrunner with a tough reputation.
Dunivant said he shot Floyd out of fear when they met near a busy intersection. Floyd had sold him cocaine, leading to a two-month dispute, Dunivant said.
Floyd, who played with McKinley's 1974 football team, spent 6½ years in prison for selling guns to Philadelphia gang members.
